How to build or break the habits

We are a creature of habit. Our everyday routine is a combination of habits. Waking up in the morning, then brushing teeth, taking bath, having breakfast, and then going to work are habits. Habit is a function of our subconscious mind.

Habits play an important role in everyone’s life. It is our habits that lead us to the path of success or lead to failure. So to become successful in life one must work on one daily routine and habits. Since it is not easy to build or break any habit but it is not impossible.

If a person has a strong desire to become successful he/she can build any good habit and quit the bad one. It is possible only if a person is focused and has strong willpower. So let’s take a look at how to build or break the habit: some are listed below-

1.Discover why you want to build or quit any habits: This is the first and foremost step in building or breaking any system. For example, a person has a habit of laying on the bed immediately after taking dinner. And because of this habit, he/ she is suffering from obesity or other digestion problem. A person must know his habit of laying bed calls diseases. So a person knows to live healthily he must build a new habit and quit the bad one.

2.Discover which habits you want to build or quit: This is the second most thing. A person must find out which habit needs to be quit and replaced with the good one. In our previous example, a person knows the reason for his suffering. But finding a problem alone is not worthy, one must find out a solution too. So after finding the problem, a person quit his habit of laying on the bed immediately after a meal and build a habit of walking after a meal.

3.Set Reminders or sticky notes: Sometimes mind forgets about the newly building habit and works on the old habit. Or sometimes it is difficult to follow new habits. So stick a note on the wall or set a reminder on your phone or smartwatch that will remind you about your task.

4.Analyse your progress: Prepare a diary, write your everyday performance, and analyze it weekly. It proves very effective to track a record of work and analyze it.

5.Think about your goal: It is not easy to switch off habits and sometimes it is very difficult also. At that time, sit in a peaceful place, take a long breath and think about your goal. When you imagine yourself in a place achieving your goal, you will get new energy. It is very effective so tried it out.
