Why is Safi banned?

Safi is herbal medicine and claims to be a natural blood purifier used to treat many skin-related problems. But some countries banned this medicine to be sold. Two countries Canada and Australia banned this product to be sold in their region.

The reason is, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency of the United Kingdom Department of Health reported that samples of Safi contained high levels of arsenic.

What is Arsenic?

Arsenic is a chemical element, occurs in many minerals as a combination of sulfur and metals. Arsenic and its compounds are mainly used in the production of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and treated wood products. The United States Environmental Protection Agency states that all forms of arsenic are a serious risk to human health. The United States Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry ranked arsenic as number 1 in its 2001 Priority List of Hazardous Substances at Superfund sites.

After that Health Canada issued a warning that Safi was found to contain arsenic levels above 40 times the maximum allowable concentration for drugs. And people who had used the product were told to contact their physician. The product had never been authorized for sale in Canada, but authorities suspect it may have been sold there, and had also been available for sale in the USA.
